Communication is the exchanging of information by writing, speaking or using some medium. Communication is a key to success in every employment opportunity because it opens up the way to get what you don't know or know what exactly you need to understand. Here are a few essential skills of communication that I developed for myself as a developer.

Listening Carefully

Paying attention and truly listening to the speaker is a sign of good communication. Listening carefully can improve your understanding of the information being passed out from the speaker and it shows respect to the speaker.

Being aware of Body Language

Simple and concise body language like eye contact can really show someone respect and signals that you're listening and paying attention. Body Language can also help you to stay focused on what is being communicated so it's always a good practice to make eye contact while communicating.

Ask questions

It's always okay to ask for clarification. This helps you to learn and understand more about what is being communicated. When we ask for clarification, we seek to be a good listener to the Speaker.

Be brief on the major points

Clarity is always achieved by being short and precise. It's best to think and highlight the main point of your messages before sending them out. A good practice would be writing a few short, sharp sentences that express the message. This will help in being specific.

Take Notes

Writing things down is very important when attending to a key communication at your workplace or even just watching a tutorial. This particularly helps to ensure nothing is forgotten or miscommunicated. I would consider taking notes especially when someone is talking.
